I wonder

how come people who lost their memory could still communicate with other people verbally? I mean, they can't figure out what their name is, where they are from, and so on, but, they still know what 'where am I' and 'who are you' means. it's weird. if you lost your memory, you shouldn't be able to know anything at all, just like a baby, who doesn't know how to talk, booomm just like a new formatted computer.

they said humans are the first creature to be created. but how come dinosaurs could extinct million years before the first homosapien exist?

if you put a big hot air balloon in the air, and leave it there. will it move with respect to the earth gravity? or will it just stay at the same spot? if it's the former, so basically airplanes travelling to the east would require less energy to move as it is also dragged by the earth's movement to the east. if it's the latter, does it mean that you can travel around the world without even moving at all? wait I think it's the former. even satellite moves with respect to earth's movement, so a hot air balloon shouldn't be a problem for mr gravity.

hurm hurm. it's just some of those questions that tend to make you ponder more about life.

oh, I fail badly in using Mac, seriously. first time using it, I can't even figure out how to print a PDF document without asking the person next to me. luckily that person did a good job in making me feel not so bad about it by mentioning it's ok, he doesn't use Mac either. lol. the thing is, almost all the computers in UofM are Macs. really need to get used to it. there was even once that I can't figure out how to do a simple task in Mac that made me switched to another computer which run Windows. grrrr.

I managed to transfer 41 credits from Intec. yahoooooooo!!

economics

last econs class was very interesting. firstly, is because I didnt fall asleep at all. haha. thanks to emma for accompanying me. had a video chat with her during the lecture. the lecture is always boring, mostly because the lecturer kept repeating the same thing from previous lectures all over again. basically two third of every lecture consist of the same content as previous lectures, only one third of the whole lecture is a new thing. that's the reason I brought my laptop together with me. seeing student bringing laptops to lecture hall is a common atmosphere here, to take notes actually. but it's also useful to kill the time when the lecture is dragging and soporific.

okay, the unique thing about last econs lecture that made me create this post especially for it is because the lecturer did something extraordinary. he was teaching us about this consumer value thing, which is how much consumers will be willing to pay for a certain product. so he gave us this example of a chocolate cake. a double layered chocolate cake, with raspberry sauce on its side, plus with whipped cream. and out of a sudden, he paused, and said, 'well I think it's easier if you could actually see the real thing'. so he took out a real chocolate and showed it to the audience! wahlaweh. he then made an auction for the cake. it's to give an example what is consumer value, the highest price people is willing to pay for a certain product. so the bidding starts. from $1, and up until $30. gila betul. someone actually bought it for $30. he even mentioned that he's willing to pay $50 for it as he's damn starving. once he got his hands on the cake, he went out of the class with his peers. gila betul americans nih. hehe. but it was funny. at least that made the whole class awake for a while. usually, you'll be able to see half of the class either sleeping, bored, talk to each other and so on.

ok lah I'm bored actually. that explains this out of nowhere post. -_-"

weekend, yeay!

so, I just got back from the Michigan Union again. it was FUN! played pool (oh yeah, it's compulsory), karaoke, and laser tag (it's like a paintball, but using laser, and the whole room was dark, so it's fun+scary). we went to Pierpont Common first, there's a small meeting to make a petition for JPA & MARA to ask them to increase our allowance. hurm hurm. ok, don't wanna talk much about that, I don't wanna end up like copykate. haha

so after that, had dinner with Carolyn Dian Kartikha and Sutha. yeah, I'm the only guy there, so hearing 'girl talk' is so much "FUN". haha ok kidding, it was fine lah. so after that, we went to the Union as there's this UMIX thing going on. it's like an event where you have many free things and activities going on. so we had karaoke, on a stage. sang hey there delilah, which turned out terribly bad, but still we had fun. and the others had other songs which I can't recall the title. boleh lah. luckily we came early, so there weren't many people around yet.

Judy Dian Kartikha and Sutha on stage. not a best shot tho.

some random people karaoke-ing Summer Lovin (crap I've never heard of this song before and I already fell in love with it, hehe)

after that we went for the free pool, again. yahoo. after that, had this laser tag thingy. was very tiring. it's been a while since I last ran around like crazy. it was just for like 10 mins and I'm already sweating. thanks to the cold weather, so it's not that hot. we went to the karaoke room again, but it was just about to close :( planned to sing hate that I love you with soon yi, haha. well, I guess we'll just sing it to ourselves in our room.

a day before that, I went skating at Yost. $5 dollars for it. $3 for entrance and another two for shoe rent. fun fun. lama tak skating. need to brush up my skills back. went with soon yi, carolyn and another singaporean girl, sing yi (not sure how to spell her name). we plan to make it a weekly activity, we'll see how it goes. :D

sumpah rindu!!

snow

woke up, and it was snowing. someone up there must be very generous to shake the snow shaker furiously. it's snowing, but the temperature is warmer than yesterday, that's good. but it just annoy you that the snow keep hitting your face, and even goes straight into your mouth. I don't wanna eat ABC for breakfast! :p

everyone has different ways of interpreting what other people say. but when you have exactly no idea what that person is trying to say, sometimes it's better to be silent than giving out rumours that might worry some people. I'm tired of explaining what it is about. for a note, it's not as bad as you guys think it is. it is completely harmless. don't worry. I'm extremely fine.

anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAK! love you always. *winks* :)

it's -21 pulak today. wow bestnya! it's like being inside a freezer in another freezer. brrr check out the video, you can even hear the sound of the wind. and that, was taken with my window closed. imagine what will happen with the window open. my camera will freeze and break into million pieces of ice. muhaha ok takdela sampai camtu.

the wind sound that demotivates me to wake up every morning.

brrr

it's -20 celcius today, plus the wind chill and all. thank god it's weekend. even the americans are shivering. hehe. at least I don't feel that embarassed hugging myself trying to stand the cold.

alarm

was in my room, in the usual position, in front of my laptop. and suddenly the fire alarm of the whole University Towers went off. it has this annoying *bzzzz* sound, not like the fire siren back in Malaysia. asked my roommates what should we do, they said just ignore it. okies. but still, I went out of my room to chek if there's actually anything going on. everything looks fine. then, saw several people walking down the stairs. huuu do I have to go down too? the building looks fine tho. then just went back to my room and do my things. out of nowhere my roommate came to me and told me to get my passport and go down to the lobby. fine...so I took my important stuff, and went down the stairs, 10 floors down. many people were behind us in the stairways. the lobby was full with the residents. and then I realized some of them came out from the elevator. crap! should've taken the lift instead. so we waited. eager to know what's going on. hurm hurm. then the lobby receptionist told us that the sprinkler on the 8th floor was turned on because someone didnt close the window. what the hell. and because of that, the carpets on the 8th floor, 7th and 6th I think was all wet. that's when the people from the carpet cleaning came, 4 vans of them. so itu saja, fake fire alarm, ngeng.

but, did you know that there has been a murder in Ann Arbor last 2 days? and the murderer is a U of M student. the news said someone tried to rob him in his house. but then, why are you running away when you're defending yourself lah? oh wait, he could be owning the gun illegally. but still, you'll only get fined for it kan? self defense what..or just say that it was the robber's gun lah, habis cerita.

*link to the murder story* www.wwj.com/Murder-Near-U-of-M-Campus/1494240

just got back from Michigan Union. tonight is free pool night, so we played until the place closes, hoho. then there's a room where they play musics and all, just like a club. Joshua and Carolyn were there earlier, so I joined them for a while. saya kayu, tak reti menari. hahaha. damn need to learn how to dance. I don't know why but there are so many activities tonight at the Union. there are free photo booth, free food, free video games etc. didn't get the chance to try them all cos the place was about to close when we finished playing pool.

monday is a public holiday. Martin Luther King's day. mengapakah? saya taktahu. dah lupa time belajar american cultural studies. sorry mr kamal. hehe, I really look forward to every weekends cos that's the only time I could get assignments out of my head.

muhaha

apart from the cute and chubby squirrels and where pedestrians get the priority first to cross the road rather than the cars, this is the thing I love the most about the US! everything here is so cheap, even if you convert it to RM. (betullll)

bought these stuff online, and it arrives around 4-5 days after that. sangat efficient! plus, you can return it if the size is too big/small, or even if you don't like the design.

best gilerrrrrrr..

ok I should be studying now. :p

monday

had Physics discussion in the afternoon. well it's not so bad at all if you actually READ the textbook. hahaha ok2 will study next time. nothing special today. boring boring boring.

Economics class! hoho I'll conquer the market after I've mastered engineering..(or in this case Physics first, haha)

nooo

it's monday tomorrow. nooooo. I hate class. I even have assignment that is due tomorrow morning, and it's Physics. I'm so blur with Physics II, entirely to be exact. that's the effect of learning Physics I in Intec (no offence to anyone, haha).

they said I look Hispanic, yeker? could be because of my curly hair, which is getting longer. or maybe people here just generalize asians as people with chinese look.

I have jaw dislocation, and it's getting more annoying as I tend to yawn more often here (could be because of the cold climate, I get somnolent easier, cewah SAT word tuu). my mouth won't shut if I open it too wide. I'll have to somehow push it to the side with my hand to fix it. it sucks, really, especially when you're in front of a lot people. one of my friends noticed that I tried to fix my jaw when we were in Dhinesh place last Friday and she said it's cool! NOOOO it's not. emma emma you're supposed to be a doctor and fix my finger and jaw lah, but you're becoming an economist now. ayoyo.

Muhammad Faiz

what's your name? "Muhammad Faiz." cool, which one is your first? "both of them are my first name." wow, what's your last name then? "Abdul Malique (hehe)". *another wow* would your parents mind if you marry an American? hahaha and the questions shift from one to another.

had a gathering at Dhinesh's place last night. there were some seniors, some Americans and a whole bunch of us. sangat best. we played a game, a simple one, but it was fun. it was just about introducing ourself, but in an interesting way. too lazy to explain.

on the way back, dropped by Michigan Union to play pool. it was fun. played with Carolyn and Sheng Hong. I miss playing pool with my friends. hurm hurm.

oh yeah, people call pool as billiard here.

and lookie lookie! sangat comel.

Tuesday, January 8, 2008

hurmm

the wind was so strong last night. sheng hong and I were in our room when we heard our room window vibrated light hell. hahaha dua2 freak out. it turns out that it's just rain that hit our window, but because the wind was so strong, the impact of the rain was like rocks being thrown to our window.

and it was raining heavily this morning. I didn't wore a jacket with hoodies, so basah la masuk class. sociology lecture was soooooooooooo boring. macam belajar sejarah. then I'm supposed to go to sociology discussion class in the afternoon. but when I arrived in front of the class, I had second thought about it. yeah, I'm dropping the class. haha. so I went to Angell Hall instead to use the computer in the Fishbowl (computer hall). dropped sociology and took up Economics class. hahaha main bantai jer. so now I have Physics II + Lab, Chemistry, Differential Equations, Economics and Pronunciation II class that I'm taking with Sheng Hong for fun. we wanna speak like americans yo. and it's only a 1 credit hour class, so I guess it won't add that much of load for me. hehe

the snows are goneeeeeeeeee, for now. bagus lah, tak sejuk sgt. makin kerap nampak mat saleh pakai shorts. huuuu.

Monday, January 7, 2008

class

today I just had Differential Equations and Chemistry lecture. chemistry was fine, it's just like SPM's chemistry, but in english. the coolest thing about lecture here is that you have to buy a device called Qwizdom, which looks like a calculator. it connects to the server inside the lecture hall and when the lecturer asks any question, we will have to key in our answer in it and it'll be automatically saved to the server. so if you key in the right answer, you'll get 5 marks, 3 marks for wrong, and 0 for not answering at all. and it'll add up to the final grade, 5%. basically, it also acts like an attendance checking for the lecturer. soooo you can't skip lectures that use Qwizdom. the lectures that I have that will be using it so far is just Physics and Chemistry. hurm hurm.

how the Qwizdom looks like.

Differential Equations (DE) class was fine too, so far. just basic differential and integration. hope I won't have any troubles in the class, not like Cal 3 in intec :p

the snows are gone, almost. it's 15 degrees celcius today. most of the students here doesn't wear any jacket today. some of them even wear shorts. and I've been reducing the amount layers of cloth to wear day by day. konon dah get used to the weather la. or maybe it's just that it's getting warmer for now. but they said January should be the peak of winter? entah la.

Sunday, January 6, 2008

window shop.

so yesterday, we went to Briarwood Mall. it was good, although practically I didn't buy anything. there were GAP, Abercrombie & Fitch, Banana Republic and everything was soooo cheapppppppp. ok lah not that cheap, but still freaking cheap if compared to Malaysia.

inside Briarwood, there's a department store called Macy's, which I really likeeeeee. they have CK, Ralph Lauren, Levi's and everything. it was so tempting. you can get CK and Ralph Lauren for as low as $40 there. and that's still cheap compared to Malaysia price which is RM400 and above. wah la weh. Levi's jangan cakap la, $30 and there's even lower for a jeans. takpe2 I'll buy it later.

then we went to Meijers to buy our apartment stuff. bought kitchen utensils, toiletries, groceries and all. lama giler kat situuuuuuuu. I didn't buy a lot of stuff but others did! then out of nowhere met Dian. how long was it when I last saw a Malay (other than those with me). hehe then at night, Dian dropped over our apartment, had some light dinner which was prepared by the others. gave Dian her stuff, haha. how freaking surprised she was when she got the whole carton. guess it was worth it.

so today, we're supposed to be having a gathering with the UMIMSA, (University of Michigan Malaysia Student Association). not sure how it'll go, but hope it's gonna be good.

and it's very warm today. the snows are melting, and it's wet everywhere. I thought it's gonna be cold as it was foggy, but I was dead wrong. huhu

Thursday, January 3, 2008

class

so, I might be taking Physics II, Chemistry I, Differential Equations and Sociology this semester which sums up to 16 credits. huuuuu wanted to take Psychology instead but it seems that most of the available class for it clashes with my other subjects.

warghhh not in the mood to write. I still don't have internet in my room yet. have to come down to the lobby everytime I want to online. hurmm

Tuesday, January 1, 2008

move in.

so, I just moved in to my apartment today. it's nice, just that its hot shower is not working, gilerrr sejuk nak mandi cold shower...but the weird thing is, other hot tap water in the room is working fine, hurm hurm.

the snow is soooooo nice today. here's a view from my room. cantik kan? :P

tomorrow's orientation is at 11am. but there's gonna be an english academic evaluation at 8am. pergh awal giler. and, bathing..hahaha im not gonna say anything about that.

and here's something worth checking out.

housing is done!

today, settled my housing stuff! so I got an apartment, 2 rooms, shared with 4 people. it has a kitchen, 1 full bathroom and a very nice view as it's on the 10th floor. plus, it's just 5 minutes away from my uni campus and the city. so, it's very location wise! the rent is around$1350 per month, divided by 4 should only be around $350+ per person. definitely better than the on campus housing that I got from UMich, University of Michigan (which cost $1076 per month, ngeh). gonna share the room with 3 other engineering guys as we will have to shift to North Campus (currently in Central Campus) next year, so it'll be easier if we stick together.

slight view of the kitchen. with a stove and fridge.

the living room.

study table in the bedroom.

how the bedroom looks like.

from another angle.

after we're done with our apartments as in paying the security deposit and insurance, we headed to T-Mobile store to get our cellphone lines. on our way there, we visited the uni central campus. can't recognize what building is what (yet), so we just wandered around.

one thing about US is, they have cute squirrels!! they're like so fat, and you just feel like hugging them, lol. and and, there are lots of them! chomelll gilaaaa..feel like taking them as a pet, hoho.

Angell Hall. one of the important buildings in my uni. but not sure what it is for yet.

at the T-Mobile store. Sheng Hong could actually fell asleep there. Puan Ruzela would definitely not be surprised, lol.

we were just finished shopping at Meijers, buying our apartment stuff (pillows, kettle etc.), and snows were coming down from the sky! besttt..but you'll get wet after that, huhu..

had dinner with others, and then jumped into the snow outside. it was so freaking cool. went out without my sweater and jacket and went back in freezing cold.

they said the snow is gonna be nice tomorrow morning after it stops. and the weather forecast mentioned it's gonna be 8 thick inches of snow tomorrow :O
hope I'll do fine with it and not get sick. and tomorrow I'll be moving in to my apartment. been staying in a senior's house for two nights. greatly appreciate the accommodation. don't wanna trouble him more.
and hey! Happy New Year from Ann Arbor, Michigan! miss you guys (you know who you are)..
:)
